Gypsy Mama's prompt: "This week, let's focus on friendship."
Start:
Our friendship is solidified amongst flamingoes and sea lions. Between the predator and monkey houses we can be found chasing around four sprite Homo Sapiens. She comes prepared with fruit snacks and contraband McDonalds biscuits to be doled out throughout the morning, buying us more time to talk. And talk we do. The kind-of talking that takes us off on tangents and we’re unable to recall what we were talking about in the first place. Sometimes we sit on the steps and watch the kiddos run in the water fountains. And the talking continues. Sometimes we pause to allow the other time to discipline. Then we look at eachother and say, “What were we talking about?” Not that it matters. We never seem to run out of things to say. I laugh to myself as we stand in front of the Spectacled Langur exhibit. Here we are, two mommies with our babies watching monkey mommies with theirs. They pick bugs off their babies, we wipe our little ones’ faces. They huddle together on branches while their wild ones swing from trees. We collapse on the bench while our four slide down the slide. Both are a community of mothers. How glad I am that my community includes words. And lots of them. Happy Birthday Taryn!!!!
