We celebrated Sophia's terrific 2nd birthday with a few of the Sesame Street monsters that she loves so much. She was greeted on the morning of October 31st by life size Cookie Monster and Elmo pinatas (thank you Granddaddy and Grandmother who brought these pinatas all the way from San Antonio!). Pure joy on that little girl's face. More joy came later in the morning as friends and family showed up at the door. The night before we practiced greeting her friends with, "Hello! Welcome to my party!" She said it beautifully all morning until the guests arrived at that door, at which point she became suddenly mute and shy. This quickly wore off as the party took off. Toddlers, babies, and parents crowded into our little abode on a very rainy October morning. The kiddos entertained themselves with "Do a Dot" painting while the adults enjoyed refreshments of pumpkin mini-bundt cakes (thank you Mama Jean!), apples with caramel dip, Amish friendship bread, Sausage and Grits casserole (thanks for the recipe Taryn!), apple cider, and coffee. Let's not forget the Cookie Monster cupcakes. Each little guest had their picture taken with Elmo and Cookie Monster. Sophia fed the pinatas through-out the party while her good friend Lawson took them into the living room for a pile-drive straight from Nacho Libre. Sweet Lawson - these two make quite the pair. We are blessed with dear friends that Sophia asks about all the time. I think it was a little overwhelming to see them all in the same room! We are thankful each day for the people God has brought into our lives during residency.

On this Sophia's 3rd year of life we are thankful for a healthy, joyous little girl who enjoys playing pretend, dancing, kissing and hugging her little brother, and reading books every chance she gets. Oh, and if you stop by our house and we are calling her "Trusty" and Vincent "Jacque" and she is calling us "Lady" and "Tramp," don't be alarmed. It's just Sophia being our little Sophia, acting out her new favorite movie Lady and the Tramp. And yes, she chose Trusty - the large bloodhound as her character - not too sure why but precious nonetheless. Every morning starts with placing one sock on her foot for her "bandage." You do remember that Trusty required a bandage after the run-in with the horse and carriage? And then the inquiry, "Where's Jacque?"
