A New Habit

The Morlandts are attempting to establish a healthy habit of shopping at one of our local farmer's markets each Saturday morning.  For the last three weeks we've visited the market at The Pepper Place.  We call it the "Gucci Farmer's Market" due to the trendy atmosphere and increased price of produce but it's truly a fun experience.

The kiddos are lubed up with sunscreen, hidden under hats and stroller shades.  I'm missing the "trendy" fashion boat trading the typical sundress fare for Keen sandals and durable shorts.  This is more appropriate considering that I will be chasing a two year old while bending over to pick up a sippy cup more times than I would like to count.  I'm a little on the grouchy side as I have abstained from my morning cup of coffee in order to enjoy the gourmet coffee available for purchase at the market.  After adding the cream to my dark roast we head over to the lemonade stand for Sophia and the Continental Bakery stand for a cranberry orange scone for Vincent.

Now it's time to get down to business.  Our grocery goal is to buy one fruit, one green vegetable, bread, and tomatoes for the week.  Our behavior goal is to remain in the stroller for one walk through and when allowed out of the stroller not to approach any dogs without asking their owners first, "May I pet your doggy please?"  Daddy has sewn up too many facial injuries due to dog bites.  So far we've been successful.  Picking up the juiciest tomatoes and peaches you can imagine.  The type where the juice runs down your chin when you take a bite.  Our green vegetable purchases have been limited to zucchini and arugula.  The okra is looking mighty delicious but is disqualified for purchase due to Tony's opposition to slimy vegetables.  And the bread?  Continental Bakery's sourdough.  Makes for perfect tomato sandwiches and BLTs.  Behavior goals are met with flying colors as Sophia adores the social interaction of asking each person to pet their dog.  Dogs are everywhere, every size and breed.  Sophia is delighted.  Vin is content to ride in the stroller, sipping on his cup and slowly eating his scone.  I am sweating through my shirt by the end of the morning but am happy and proud to be carrying home healthy produce for the week while supporting our local farmers.

This last Saturday Tony was able to join us, as he was post-call.  This freed up some hands for picture taking.  And Sophia was allowed the treat of riding in her daddy's "big blue backpack."

So yummy!

We first went to the Farmer's Market at Pearl Brewery when Jake was about 4 weeks old. It was soo hot! We put a watermelon in the stroller and held Jake, because it weighed more than Jake!
