Project 21 - Day 3

Today was a long one.  Fellow Texans - is there not something the state can do about Highway 35?  Seriously.  The traffic.  The construction.  The 18 wheelers.  The screaming babies (oh wait, that's just in my truck).  A trip that would normally take 5 hours took us 8 today.  This and the fact that Vincent cried for about an hour straight made the sound of Hondo gravel crunching underneath our wheels all that much sweeter.

The highlight of our day was a stop at Baylor.  About an hour from Waco the warm fuzzies started. Once on campus we took the obligatory Pat Neff and mascot pictures.  Before leaving town we stopped off for a cup of joe at Common Grounds, where my coffee obsession began.  Chocolate Florentine every Saturday morning as I headed to work at The Art Center of Waco.  Cafe au Lait during late night cramming at the library.  In our early marriage, when we lived on a cash budget and I was in graduate school, we had a special envelope labeled Common Grounds.  I will not discuss what percentage of our income went into this envelope.  Larry Burkett would not approve.

Tonight and for the next week we are here in Hondo visiting Mimi and Grandpa.  Lots of swimming is on the agenda.  A few bean and cheese breakfast tacos.  Pitch black country night skies.  Walking the land while watching for cactus.  And night-time silence.  Country living at its best.

"Mmm, Common Grounds. Oh, how I miss you..."

Glad to see you're already making the most outta your trip to TX (and it's not even 1/3 over!)
